The Anti-Diskriminierungsbüro (ADB) Berlin e.V. is a registered assosiation, founded on the 1st June 1995. From this moment, we have been involved and committed to engaging against the heirarchical power structures that allow and encourage discrimination. The emphasis of our anti-discrimination work lies with the situation of immigrants in Germany. The problems concerning the ADB are just as diverse as the people themsenlves, and must be addressed on a case-by-case-basis. The ADB acts on behalf of all immigrants, who often come to us when affected by multiple discriminations. The activites of the ADB involve advice on discrimination, mediation between the relevant people and the authorities, as well as publicity and integration work. At regular intervals we offer a German course for asylum seekers and organise intercultural excursions. For topical subjects, for example police brutality, custody awaiting deportation, birth certificate problems and anti-discrimination legislation, we issue press releases and hold exhibitions, solidarity events and discussion events for the public. Although we chiefly address the problems concerning immigrants, our employees and volunteers have set themselves the goal of opposing all forms of discrimination, including sexism, racism and homophobia. Through our work we intend to contribute to a social democratisation, in order to point out discriminatory social structures and change the problem. Also this should lead to an increased awareness of society and a dismantling of its prejudices. What distinguishes us from other organisations is that we are a politically independent foundation, financed only through donations. That means, when presented with a case of discrimination we are in the situation to express ourselves freely and criticise national instutitions. Our success rate is increased because we regualrly cooperate with other non-governmental organisations, such as Flüchtlingsrat and ReachOut. We always welcome people to see our work for themselves, either by visiting our office, attending our events or seeking information through our publications. We would be grateful for your support, ideas and engagement. |
